The Western Shamrocks, originally known as the “Thornlie Shamrocks” are a well known and respected Gaelic Football Club amongst the Perth ‘Irish’ and ‘Australian’ communities.

Established in 1988 to assist in the development of Gaelic sports within Perth and to improve the overall Gaelic football competition, the club has grown from strength to strength to become one of the better known and most respected clubs in Western Australia.

The Club, which have competitive teams in both the Men’s and Women’s league have been successful in many competitions and championships over the years and currently hold the highest number of representatives for the WA State ‘Minor Team’ Competition (2004 & 2005). An indication of what potential exists for the club in the near future.

As well as having success on the field, another great attribute for any organisation is to have a ‘Family’ of members and supporters who have a place that they can call their own and which they know will offer them a great social life (The Craic), good company and most importantly great support when it is most needed or required.

As ‘Shamrocks’ we pride ourselves in this aspect and this has caused us to become a very popular club, not only amongst current members, but long standing supporters of the sport in WA and the other clubs themselves.

Since 2004 a new and vibrant committee have been formed to progress the strategic direction of the Club and I am pleased to have the experience and calibre of talent that we currently possess to achieve our clubs planned objectives.

With a good mixture of home grown talent and travelling Irish players, both our teams maintain the potential to make a significant impact on the local competition.

Our recruitment philosophy remains the same as in previous years, where we welcome all potential new players, whether you play other codes of football, a different sport altogether or have never played a sport before.

Diversity is the key to life and we have gained many of our successes on the shoulders of players who have only recently taken up the sport of Gaelic Football.
